Yokohama, 09 August 2025: Indigenous Peoples, through their very daily life practices, are at the centre of efforts that contribute to sustainable forest management (SFM) in the tropics. On International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 2025, ITTO celebrates our partnerships with Indigenous communities worldwide and the joint advancement of management and conservation of the world’s tropical forests.

 

Yokohama, 30 July 2025: In March, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called for a “mutirão”—a powerful appeal for immediate, collective climate action and a rapid transition to decarbonized economies. Framing it as a “global COP30 effort to tackle climate change,” the call set the tone for the upcoming UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP30), to be held in Belém, Brazil.

Yokohama, 28 July 2025: Resilience has long been a buzzword in ITTO circles. For anyone concerned with tropical forests, it evokes sustainably managed, tree-rich ecosystems with the health and vibrancy to deliver timber and many other benefits over the long term, despite the impact of climate change and other stressors. Now resilience is gaining wider significance for the Organization and its members, as economic and political uncertainty clouds the outlook for international trade in timber and related products and raises questions about the global pursuit of equitable and sustainable development.

Yokohama, 25 July 2025: The Global Legal and Sustainable Timber Forum (GLSTF) 2025 aims to strengthen networking, collaboration, and business exchange among stakeholders in the timber and wood products industry. The forum seeks to advance sustainable tropical forest management and promote the adoption of legal and sustainable wood product supply chains.

Yokohama, 24 July 2025: Many of ITTO’s 37 tropical timber producing member countries have adopted innovative tools and mechanisms, but at varying levels. There is a lot of opportunity for growth.
